Mike Y. Kim, Vice President of Investor Relations, Castle Lanterra Properties

Investor engagement is the doctrine Mike Y. Kim uses as his approach to delivering value to the existing investor base at Castle Lanterra Properties (CLP). As vice president of investor relations since joining the firm in 2015, Kim’s strategic leadership in marketing and communications reflects the mission and brand of CLP.

Founded in 2009, CLP is a privately-held real estate investment company focused on the acquisition and management of quality income-producing multifamily properties within strategic growth markets throughout the United States. Elie Rieder, CEO of CLP, was first introduced to Kim at an industry conference. At the time, Kim was working as an independent sales and marketing consultant. Rieder recognized Kim’s talent for real estate investment, and the two stayed in touch, discussing potential opportunities in which they might work together.

“Mike’s commitment and expertise has been instrumental in furthering our investors’ level of confidence in CLP. As we continue to expand the CLP platform, he has been a tremendous asset for the firm,” said Rieder.

At CLP, Kim provides communications and public relations strategies in a real estate environment driven by deadlines. His “concise but informative” approach to communications and reporting, reflected in everything from the firm’s quarterly reports, to deal presentations, and electronic content including social media, has been well-received. That has had a highly positive impact on CLP’s ability to engage its audience, which includes existing investors, investment advisors, brokers, lenders and other professionals within the real estate industry.

Prior to joining CLP, Kim worked at CityShares, an innovative, alternative real estate investment platform. While there, he worked on their neighborhood-focused discretionary funds, taking the traditional private equity model and customizing it for the CityShares program.

Kim also worked at Castellan Real Estate Partners, a firm specializing in the acquisition and management of multi-family apartment dwellings in locales that included Northern Manhattan and select neighborhoods of Brooklyn. At Castellan, he directed the firm’s investor communications program and expanded their capital distribution channels. Prior to that, he was Director of Investor Relations at Gemini Real Estate Advisors, a New York City-based investment firm specializing in retail and hospitality assets.

Kim began his career more than 15 years ago in the real estate private equity group at Credit Suisse. He worked alongside top management in numerous capacities that included financial analysis, fund accounting, compliance, and investor relations. During his tenure there, the firm raised in excess of $1.2 billion in equity commitments on behalf of their real estate opportunity funds.

Most recently at CLP, Kim has contributed to successful projects that include Villas Tech Ridge in Austin, TX and River Park at Raritan, NJ. Kim has instituted procedures and new technologies to deliver timely, accurate information for investors. These procedures are scalable to accommodate the increasing pace of the business and the different reporting needs of its investor base.

“I enjoy hearing unique stories from our investors and the road they took to prominence,” says Kim. “Their investments are very personal to them. As such, I believe it’s important to personalize their level of service as well. Given our strategy, it’s a long-term relationship, and one that we continually aim to strengthen over the life of the investment.”

Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Vermont.
